The Anambra State Police Command has described the attack on residential settlers in Agu-Ifite, which occurred in the early hours of July 21, 2026, as a calculated criminal plot aimed at inciting ethnic tension and destabilising the peace and security enjoyed in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the perpetrators intended to sow division among residents but failed because the people of Anambra continued to demonstrate unity, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence.

According to the command, a Joint Security Team visited the scene of the attack for an on-the-spot assessment and operational review. The team also met with community leaders, representatives of the affected settlers, and other key stakeholders to strengthen public confidence, gather firsthand information, and coordinate ongoing security efforts.

The police disclosed that intelligence obtained from survivors and other credible sources has provided useful leads, prompting intensified intelligence-driven operations to track down those responsible.

The command assured residents that security agencies are conducting a coordinated manhunt to identify, arrest, and prosecute all those involved in the attack.

It urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while continuing to provide credible and timely information that could aid investigations.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting all law-abiding residents regardless of ethnic or religious background, the command vowed that no effort would be spared in ensuring justice is served.
