Gov Yusuf Unveils Plan to Establish Kano Airline

Gov Yusuf

The Kano State Government is considering the establishment of a state-owned airline as part of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s “Kano First” development agenda aimed at boosting the state’s economy, improving transportation, and creating new sources of revenue. The governor disclosed the proposal while addressing Kano pilgrims in Makkah during the 2026 Hajj.

Governor Yusuf said the proposed airline would not only strengthen Kano’s presence in Nigeria’s aviation industry but also support commerce, tourism, investment, and job creation. According to him, the airline would improve connectivity between Kano and other parts of Nigeria and the international community, while enhancing the state’s capacity to provide efficient air transport services.

He added that, in the future, the airline could play a significant role in Hajj and Umrah operations, helping to transport pilgrims from Kano more efficiently and reducing logistical challenges associated with the annual pilgrimage.

“We are thinking of floating an airline company for the state, and this will help in flying the flag of our dear state as well as serving the interests of the people and the government of Kano,” Governor Yusuf said.

The governor emphasized that his administration remains committed to investing in strategic sectors capable of generating sustainable revenue, creating employment opportunities, and accelerating economic development under the “Kano First” vision.
