No fewer than 30 people, including eight children, were reportedly killed after suspected terrorists attacked Naridon Village in Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in the early hours of Monday.
According to a security source, the attackers stormed the community while residents were asleep, launching a deadly assault that left dozens dead and several houses destroyed.
Human rights activist Steven Kefas, who first disclosed the incident on his verified Facebook page, initially reported that at least 25 people were feared dead. He later updated the casualty figure, saying the death toll had risen to 30.
“Death toll now put at 30. Thirty women, children and men were slaughtered while innocently asleep in the midnight attack in Naridon village. One family lost six children. Some houses were also burnt by the Fulani terrorists,” Kefas wrote.
The attackers, believed to have invaded the village at about 1:00 a.m. on Monday, reportedly opened fire indiscriminately on sleeping residents, causing panic and widespread destruction.
Reacting to the reports, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Sule Shu’aibu (SAN), said he had received information about the attack but was awaiting official confirmation from security agencies.
“I received a call over the attack and I am waiting for security agencies to confirm. For now, I can’t confirm or deny the attack,” the commissioner said.
