A Kano State High Court has sentenced Sha’aibu Abdulkadir to death by hanging after finding him guilty of killing his 23-year-old married lover, Rumasa’u.
Justice Farida Dan Baffa of High Court No. 22 delivered the judgment, ruling that the prosecution proved the charge of culpable homicide beyond reasonable doubt.
During the trial, the prosecution, led by Barrister Bashiru Kabiru Aliyu, presented three witnesses, while the convict testified in his own defence before the court reached its verdict.
Evidence before the court showed that Abdulkadir visited the deceased at her residence in 2025, where he killed her after she allegedly told him she was pregnant with his child rather than her husband’s. She had also reportedly demanded ₦500,000 and threatened to expose their affair if he failed to pay.
After considering the evidence and submissions from both sides, the court held that the prosecution had successfully established the offence beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced Abdulkadir to death by hanging.
