Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised journalist Seun Okinbaloye and other media personalities over what she described as the disproportionate scrutiny of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi while other presidential candidates, including President Bola Tinubu, are rarely subjected to similar questioning.
Reacting to Obi’s recent interview on Channels Television’s One-on-One, Yesufu said she was left “irr+tated” because the same questions keep being asked.
“I don’t think there’s any question that Seun asked Peter Obi that has not already been asked. It’s the same conversation again and again.”
She questioned why Obi continues to face intense media scrutiny while other candidates are not held to the same standard.
“More pressure is being put on Peter Obi. ‘What do you want to do with insecurity? What do you want to do with this?’ There are other candidates, nothing is being said about them.”
Taking a swipe at Tinubu, she alleged that the President has largely avoided tough interviews.
“Nobody is asking him tough questions. He’s not in front of the camera. Yet the one person who cares, who has been out there speaking to the people, is the one that more and more is needed from him.”
Yesufu also faulted critics who seized on Obi’s comment about “Muslim commissioners,” insisting he was referring to Commissioners of Police and not members of his cabinet.
She urged Nigerians to shift their attention from repeatedly interrogating Obi to addressing the country’s challenges.
“I don’t think there’s anything about Peter Obi that you need to know that you’ve not heard already.”
She concluded by warning Nigerians against what she described as “self-sabotage,” saying the country has “capacity to deal with everybody” if citizens fail to make the right political choices.
