US President Donald Trump has announced that Will Scharf will become the new White House Counsel, effective September 1, replacing David Warrington, who is leaving the position for the private sector.
Trump made the announcement in a statement, praising Warrington for what he described as a “truly outstanding job” as White House Counsel and previously as a member of his presidential campaign.
Scharf currently serves as White House Staff Secretary and also chairs the National Capital Planning Commission. Trump highlighted his previous legal work, noting that Scharf represented him in several cases, including before the US Supreme Court during the Biden administration.
According to Trump, Scharf previously worked as a federal prosecutor, practised law in the private sector and served as a clerk to two federal appeals court judges. He also attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School.
Describing Scharf as “tough, strong, and smart,” Trump said the incoming White House Counsel loves the United States and respects the law.
Trump expressed confidence that Scharf would perform well in his new role, saying: “Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel.”
