Blessing Ezeokafor has accused her brother, Jowizaza, of portraying their family as wealthy on social media, allegedly creating the impression that they have access to huge sums of money.
In a video circulating online, Blessing claimed that her brother’s public display of wealth and alleged claims about having substantial funds had attracted the attention of criminals, who she said now believe the family can afford a ransom reportedly placed at ₦1.5 billion.
She alleged that the family is actually heavily indebted, claiming they owe banks about ₦40 billion and are struggling financially.
According to her, the family’s situation is being misunderstood because of what she described as “audio money” and an exaggerated image of wealth projected online.
Blessing further appealed to the alleged kidnappers to release her father, insisting that the family does not have the money they reportedly believe is available.
She also warned her brother that she would hold him responsible if anything happened to their father, blaming his alleged social media activities for worsening the situation.
The claims have generated reactions online, although the allegations concerning the reported kidnapping, ransom demand and family’s financial obligations could not be independently verified from the video.
The incident has once again sparked debate over the risks associated with publicly displaying wealth and luxury on social media, particularly amid Nigeria’s growing concerns over kidnapping and ransom-related crimes.
