The National Peace Accord is designed to promote peaceful political campaigns and elections by encouraging presidential candidates and other political stakeholders to reject violence, hate speech and actions capable of undermining Nigeria’s democratic process.
Obi’s participation in the signing comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with major political parties and candidates expected to begin mobilising supporters across the country.
The signing also underscores calls for political actors to prioritise issue-based campaigns and respect democratic rules throughout the electoral process.
