
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji, psc, minps, has ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident at the Onitsha Head Bridge that led to the discharge of a firearm and left victims injured.
Addressing the crowd in Onitsha on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, CP Oji said the immediate priority of the Police Command was to ensure that the victims receive adequate medical attention and recover fully.
The Commissioner subsequently visited the victims at the hospital, where he assured them of the Command’s support and pledged to personally ensure that their medical expenses are covered.
CP Oji also directed that the circumstances surrounding the incident, particularly the events leading to the discharge of the firearm, be thoroughly investigated.
He stressed that the investigation would establish the facts of the matter and ensure that appropriate action is taken based on its findings.
The Commissioner appealed for calm and urged members of the public to remain peaceful while the investigation is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the traffic situation around the Onitsha Head Bridge has been de-escalated, with free flow of vehicular and human movement now restored.
