Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has attributed the state’s improved security situation to his administration’s policy of allowing security agencies to operate professionally without political interference.
Otti stated this on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during a send-off ceremony for outgoing security commanders who served in Abia State, held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium in Umuahia.
The governor said his administration deliberately refrained from interfering in security operations because it had “nothing to hide,” stressing that security personnel must be allowed to carry out their duties based on professional judgment and the law.
According to him, he would not use his office to pressure security commanders into releasing suspects or taking actions outside established procedures.
The governor also commended the outgoing commanders for their sacrifices and commitment to protecting lives and property in the state, noting that their work often required them to make personal sacrifices so residents could live safely.
He assured the outgoing officers that their relationship with the state would remain cordial despite their transfers, adding that additional parting gifts had been arranged for them.
Earlier, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meríbeole, praised the commanders for contributing to the strengthening of Abia’s security architecture through collaboration with the state government.
The outgoing commanders also commended Governor Otti for providing the necessary logistics and support for security operations, describing his administration as security-friendly.
Those honoured at the ceremony included the immediate past 14 Brigade Commander, Nigerian Army, Ohafia, Brigadier General Hassan Muhammed Bello; immediate past Abia Commissioner of Police, AIG Danladi Isah; former DSS State Director, Ibrahim Sariki; former NSCDC State Commander, Commandant Akinsola Aderemi; and former NDLEA Commander, Commandant Chigbu Odoemelam Chile.
The commanders said the governor’s support motivated security agencies to perform effectively, with some describing Abia as one of the most secure states in the country.
The ceremony was attended by government officials, security stakeholders and other dignitaries.
