Former Kogi State Senator Dino Melaye has announced plans to seek judicial interpretation of the appointment of Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) Chairman, Dr Zacch Adedeji, to a fundraising position in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 campaign council.
The development followed the unveiling of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign council on Saturday, with Adedeji listed as Deputy Director of Fundraising for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Melaye, reacting to the appointment in a video shared on his Facebook page, questioned whether the role was compatible with Adedeji’s responsibilities as head of the government agency responsible for revenue collection.
The former lawmaker described the situation as a potential conflict of interest and said he would approach the court to challenge the arrangement.
Melaye argued that a public official overseeing the collection of government revenue should not simultaneously occupy a campaign fundraising position for a political candidate.
He said the matter required judicial scrutiny, stressing that the court should determine whether Adedeji’s appointment complies with relevant public service rules and legal provisions.
The controversy has also generated reactions among Nigerians on social media, with some questioning whether the involvement of the NRS chairman in campaign fundraising could create concerns over the separation between public responsibilities and partisan political activities.
Melaye maintained that his planned legal action was aimed at testing the legality of the appointment rather than merely criticising the APC campaign structure.
