NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns about Nigeria’s economic productivity and growing food insecurity, describing the country as one of the hungriest nations in the world.
Speaking at the ongoing NBA AGC 2026 in Rivers State, Obi argued that Nigeria’s economic challenges are largely rooted in its inability to produce enough to meet the needs of its growing population.
He further highlighted the irony that, despite being a major agricultural nation, Nigeria has received grain from war-torn Ukraine over the past two years to help address food shortages.
His remarks have reignited the debate over food security, domestic production and Nigeria’s dependence on imports.
