A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has declared that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will lose the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Nigerians are already prepared for a change of government.
Melaye made the declaration during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, where he criticised the Bola Tinubu administration over the country’s economic hardship, insecurity, alleged corruption and what he described as poor implementation of government budgets.
According to the former senator, the ADC’s path to victory is straightforward because, in his assessment, Nigerians are dissatisfied with the current administration and are seeking an alternative.
He accused the government of borrowing heavily without adequately translating the funds into meaningful development, alleging that some government contracts awarded in previous years remained unpaid.
Melaye also claimed that growing hunger, insecurity and killings had widened the gap between the government and citizens, arguing that Nigerians would have an opportunity to express their dissatisfaction through the ballot box in 2027.
The ADC chieftain further criticised what he described as statements by President Tinubu that could encourage political violence, rigging and ballot snatching, saying such comments were inappropriate for a president who should provide leadership and set an example for young Nigerians.
He expressed confidence that the 2027 election would produce a new government, urging President Tinubu and members of his family to begin preparing to leave the Presidential Villa.
“I’m telling you that the results will tell in January. The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage and things from the villa… because there will be a change of government,” Melaye said.
Melaye, who left the Peoples Democratic Party in July 2025 for the ADC, has emerged as one of the opposition party’s most outspoken figures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
