President Donald Trump’s administration has ordered pause on immigrant visa appointments for Nigerians and other foreign nationals from other parts of the world.
A statement by the U.S. State Department on Tuesday stated that visa appointments were “adjusted” as it launched a global training initiative at U.S. embassies and consulates across the globe.
“In early August, we launched a global training initiative at all of our embassies and consulates worldwide. To accommodate this in-depth training, appointments for visa services will be adjusted,” the statement said.
This comes as Mr Trump’s administration intensifies crackdown on immigration drawing legal opposition.
Last Friday, a U.S. judge struck down Mr Trump’s administration policy suspending the issuance of immigrant visas to applicants from Nigeria and 74 other countries.
However, on Monday, Mr Trump’s administration disclosed plans to revoke the visas of nearly 200,000 foreigners who entered the United States on business (B-1) and tourism (B-2) visas but later sought asylum, a move that, if implemented, would mark the largest single visa revocation.
