The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Jigawa State, CP Tijjani Murtala, has warned police personnel against misconduct, abuse of authority and human rights violations.
This was contained in a press statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, and issued to newsmen.
He said the Commissioner gave the warning on Thursday during his maiden conference with members of the Command Management Team, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Heads of Departments and other senior officers across the state.
He urged the officers to uphold professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties.
He also directed commanders to ensure that distress calls from members of the public receive prompt and effective attention, stressing that timely response was essential to saving lives, protecting property and strengthening public confidence in the police.
CP Murtala urged officers to demonstrate fairness, respect for human dignity and accountability, warning against acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
He charged commanders to provide effective leadership and ensure proper supervision of personnel while remaining responsive to the security needs of their respective communities.
The Commissioner further emphasised intelligence-led policing, effective information sharing and coordinated operations as part of efforts to prevent crime and improve public safety across the state.
He directed officers to strengthen collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organisations, community leaders and sister security agencies to facilitate community-based intelligence gathering and address emerging security challenges before they escalate.
CP Murtala also called for greater visibility policing, effective crime prevention and improved coordination with neighbouring state police commands, particularly in tackling crimes that transcend state boundaries.
He assured residents of the Command’s renewed commitment to protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, preventing crime and creating a safe environment for lawful activities.
The Commissioner urged members of the public to continue cooperating with the police and other security agencies by providing credible and timely information on suspicious activities.
