Popular Anambra comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, has reportedly been killed in a gun attack in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Nwosu was said to have been attacked on SM Okeke Street on Sunday while driving his Hilux truck, a vehicle residents had become familiar with because of the loudspeakers fitted to it.
According to sources, the comedian was allegedly followed from his residence by unidentified assailants travelling in a Toyota Corolla with tinted windows before the attackers reportedly opened fire on him.
He was said to have died inside the vehicle after sustaining gunshot injuries. The truck subsequently veered off the road and reportedly ended up in a ditch, while music continued playing from the sound system.
Nwosu was a familiar figure in Awka, where he was known for driving through different parts of the city, making public announcements and entertaining residents with music and his distinctive style.
His reported killing occurred on a day of heightened tension in Awka, with separate attacks said to have claimed at least three lives and left several others injured.
Earlier on Sunday, two men were reportedly shot dead in the Amaenyi area. The incident allegedly caused panic among residents, resulting in a stampede in which several people were injured.
The circumstances surrounding Nwosu’s killing remain unclear, while claims about a possible connection to cult-related activities have continued to generate debate among residents.
Some sources reportedly maintained that Nwosu had no known history of cult involvement, while others alleged that his son was associated with the Vikings Confraternity. However, these claims have not been independently verified.
