A solidarity walk organised in Zamfara State to demonstrate support for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid was briefly thrown into confusion after some members of the crowd were heard chanting the name of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in Gusau, the state capital, during the event organised to celebrate Tinubu’s appointment of former Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar as Director-General of his Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections.
A video from the event showed participants chanting “Sai Atiku” instead of the expected pro-Tinubu slogan, creating a moment of drama during the gathering.
The solidarity walk was organised by the A.A. Yari Political Organisation in collaboration with the Shehu Movement Organisation and the Yari 774 Initiative for Asiwaju 2027.
The organisers said Yari’s appointment was a significant development that would strengthen the ruling party and help drive its campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
Addressing supporters at the event, Zamfara State APC Chairman, Alhaji Kabiru Moyi Birnin Magaji, expressed confidence that Tinubu would secure massive support from voters in the state in 2027.
He urged party members and supporters to remain committed to the President’s re-election campaign.
Tinubu had recently constituted his Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election and appointed Yari as its Director-General.
Yari, a former governor and influential figure in Zamfara politics, is expected to play a major role in coordinating the President’s campaign activities as the ruling party begins preparations for the next general elections.
However, the unexpected “Sai Atiku” chant has drawn attention to the political dynamics within Zamfara, where rival political interests are already positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 contest.
