Argentine midfielder Nico Paz has penned an emotional tribute to Lionel Messi, thanking the football legend for inspiring him from childhood and for helping him fulfil a dream of playing alongside him for the national team.
Paz revealed that he began watching Messi’s matches with his father when he was just four years old. According to the youngster, they would often calculate whether he would have enough time to eventually share the pitch with the Argentina captain, despite believing at the time that such a moment would be impossible.
The 21-year-old expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play alongside Messi during what he described as the final years of the veteran forward’s international career.
Paz also praised Messi’s resilience, recalling how the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner continued fighting despite facing intense criticism and insults during difficult periods with Argentina.
He said Messi’s determination ultimately helped him achieve the international success he deserved, including leading Argentina to major honours.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for the national team, and for teaching me and millions of people to keep fighting when things don’t go well,” Paz wrote.
He also encouraged Messi to continue enjoying football, saying fans would continue to cherish watching him play.
“Keep enjoying what you love most, football, because we’ll keep enjoying watching you,” he added.
