Former Anambra State Governor and NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has commended Dr. Folaseye Adebayo for marking her 65th birthday by providing free surgery for 65 children.
Obi attended the final follow-up clinic and appreciation programme organised to celebrate the medical initiative, which provided adenotonsillectomy procedures to children who needed the surgeries.
The surgeries, led by Dr. Adebayo and her medical team, involved the removal of enlarged or chronically infected tonsils and adenoids. Such conditions can contribute to breathing difficulties, recurrent infections and sleep-related problems among children.
Obi expressed appreciation to Dr. Adebayo, her team, the hospital management, the parents and everyone involved in making the initiative possible.
He described the gesture as an example of using personal milestones to positively impact society.
According to Obi, birthdays should go beyond personal celebrations and provide opportunities for people to give back, touch lives and make meaningful contributions to the wellbeing of others.
He praised the medical team for dedicating their expertise and resources to improving the health of the children, describing the initiative as a demonstration of compassion and service to humanity.
The former governor also encouraged Nigerians to embrace initiatives that place the welfare of others at the centre of their celebrations, noting that acts of kindness can leave lasting impacts on individuals and communities.
