Arise Television anchor, Rufai Oseni, has cautioned President Bola Tinubu to be careful in his political dealings with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, warning that the former Rivers State governor could expose details of their relationship if they eventually fall out.
Oseni issued the warning while reacting to Wike’s recent comments about the possibility of being targeted by opposition politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, should Tinubu lose the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show, Oseni questioned why Wike was concerned about being witch-hunted if he remained convinced that his political decisions and actions were justified.
The television anchor, however, shifted his focus to Tinubu, expressing concern over the President’s increasingly close political relationship with Wike.
According to Oseni, Tinubu should ensure that whatever political arrangements exist between him and the FCT minister are matters that can withstand public scrutiny.
“The person I pity the most in all of this is President Tinubu, because you see how Wike is revealing everything now,” Oseni said.
He warned that should Tinubu and Wike eventually part ways politically, Wike could publicly disclose details of their dealings.
“The day he quickly falls out with President Tinubu, this Wike will talk, and he will talk very well,” Oseni stated.
Oseni also pointed to Wike’s history of political disagreements with former allies, urging Tinubu to exercise caution in maintaining the relationship.
He recalled Wike’s previous criticism of Tinubu during the political crisis involving former Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, particularly over the issue of political godfatherism.
The Arise anchor argued that political alliances could change over time, stressing that Tinubu should not assume that his current relationship with Wike would remain permanent.
Oseni’s comments come amid heightened political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Wike openly backing Tinubu’s re-election bid despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike has also maintained a longstanding political rivalry with Atiku Abubakar following the PDP’s 2022 presidential primary, which Atiku won ahead of Wike.
