The planned election into the office of President-General (PG) of Omor Town Union, earlier scheduled to hold today 5th September, 2026, has been postponed following the intervention of key stakeholders to avert a looming crisis and provide room for proper consultations.
The intervention was led by the Chairman-elect of Ayamelum Local Government Council, Amb. Mgbechi Emmanuel Igwebuike (Evang.), alongside the Honourable Commissioner for Culture, Tourism and Entertainment, Hon. Barr. Udoji Amedu, and former Transition Committee Chairman, Hon. Barr. Benjamin Anyafulu Onyeabo.
The stakeholders stepped in after concerns were raised over the planned election, with calls for broader consultations and adherence to the established rotational arrangement for the leadership of Omor Town Union.
Speaking with newsmen, the Mayor-elect confirmed that the election had been postponed in the interest of peace and unity. He explained that the stakeholders would sit down with relevant community leaders to resolve all outstanding issues and ensure that the position of President-General gets to the appropriate village or quarter whose turn it is under the community’s established rotational arrangement.
According to him, Aturia’s turn will not be different from the rotational arrangements previously respected among the various villages and quarters in Omor.
He appealed to Ndi Omor to remain calm, assuring them that the matter would be resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual understanding.
The Mayor-elect also expressed appreciation to the Anambra State Government and the Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, for his prompt intervention, as well as the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Affairs, and other stakeholders who listened to their concerns and contributed to preventing the situation from escalating.
He stressed that the leadership of the town union should be a source of unity and development rather than division.
“Who becomes the PG of Omor Town Union shouldn’t be something that will divide us. Let’s do it the right way.”
The development has brought calm to the community, as stakeholders are expected to continue consultations aimed at resolving the issues surrounding the PG election and ensuring a peaceful and generally acceptable process.
