The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the August 15 Osun State election, Adebayo Adedamola, has distanced himself from a petition challenging Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory at the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.
Adedamola said he neither filed the petition nor instructed his legal representatives to commence any legal action against the governor and other respondents listed in the case.
His reaction followed the display of petitions at the tribunal in Osogbo on Monday, including one marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, which reportedly bears his name and challenges the outcome of the governorship election.
Speaking with TVC, the PDP candidate expressed surprise over the petition, insisting that he had no knowledge of the case.
“There’s no petition filed by me or my counsel. So, I don’t know where they manufactured the petition they submitted at the tribunal,” he said.
Adedamola further disclosed that neither his lawyer nor the PDP leadership had communicated any decision to him concerning a plan to challenge the election result.
According to him, no meeting had been held where a decision was reached to pursue litigation over the outcome of the poll.
The PDP candidate also questioned why he would institute a case against Adeleke, whom he said he had publicly supported before the election.
He recalled that the PDP had held a press conference on August 13, two days before the election, where the party publicly backed Adeleke’s candidacy.
Adedamola added that he personally voted for Adeleke, who contested under the Accord platform.
“I even voted for Governor Adeleke of the Accord party. Why would I now change today and be filing any petition against him?” he asked.
