The vice-presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on the international community to take note of the reported attack on the convoy of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, while travelling to Benue State.
Kwankwaso expressed concern over the incident, urging diplomatic missions and election observation groups to pay attention to what happened and encourage Nigerian authorities to uphold the rule of law.
In a statement reacting to the reported incident, Kwankwaso said he was deeply disturbed by the alleged attack on Obi’s convoy.
He called on the authorities to ensure the protection of opposition leaders and safeguard democratic freedoms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi was reportedly travelling to Benue State to visit and sympathise with families and communities affected by recent attacks when his convoy allegedly encountered an obstruction along the road.
Kwankwaso urged the international community to monitor developments closely and support efforts aimed at protecting democratic participation and political freedom in Nigeria.
