The Anambra State Police Command is seeking to strengthen its intelligence-gathering network by working more closely with military veterans and forest security personnel across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, made this known on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, during separate engagements with members of the Nigeria Legion (Military Veterans) and the Nigeria Forest Security Services at the Command Headquarters in Awka.
Oji Ama said the Police needed to maximise the experience, community connections and operational reach of legitimate security stakeholders to detect potential threats before they escalate.
According to him, military veterans possess valuable security knowledge and extensive community networks that could assist the Police in identifying suspicious activities, preventing crime and providing early warnings.
The Commissioner also highlighted the importance of human intelligence, particularly from personnel operating in forests and other difficult-to-access areas.
He said information obtained from such locations could help the Command identify emerging criminal networks, monitor suspicious movements and take preventive action against threats to public safety.
Oji Ama urged both groups to maintain regular communication with the Police and ensure that information supplied to law enforcement is timely, credible and actionable.
He stressed that effective policing requires collaboration between law enforcement agencies and responsible stakeholders operating within communities.
The Commissioner assured the groups that the Command would remain open to lawful partnerships and continue engaging communities, veterans’ organisations, professional bodies and other legitimate security-support structures.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, saying every lawful avenue would be explored to prevent crime, disrupt criminal activities and protect lives and property across Anambra State.
The engagements featured the presentation of plaques, exchange of pleasantries and group photographs.
