African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore is set to begin a tour of the United States and Canada, where he will meet Nigerians in the diaspora, supporters, activists and other stakeholders ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to a statement from the Sowore campaign, he will depart Nigeria on Thursday and travel through North America, while also using the opportunity to reunite with his immediate family after spending an extended period in Nigeria.

The trip comes shortly after the Department of State Services (DSS) directed its counsel to seek an adjournment of the alleged cybercrime case against Sowore until after the 2027 presidential election. The case arose from social media posts in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”

The campaign said Sowore’s temporary absence will not affect his 2027 presidential bid, as he will participate virtually in campaign activities while abroad and engage with Nigerians and supporters across North America.

Sowore is expected to return to Nigeria before the end of September to resume campaign activities as the AAC prepares for the 2027 election. The campaign said its message remains focused on what it describes as revolutionary transformation, equal rights and justice.
