Rufai Oseni Criticises Desmond Elliot Video, Questions Nigeria’s Political Culture

Media personality Rufai Oseni has reacted strongly to a video showing Lagos State lawmaker Desmond Elliot pleading with Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Oseni, while commenting on the footage, criticised what he described as a political culture built around loyalty to powerful individuals rather than principles.

He said the video was an example of what he termed “politics of lickers,” arguing that such practices contribute to Nigeria’s inability to make meaningful progress.

According to Oseni, Elliot’s appearance in the video was particularly striking because of the political circumstances surrounding his current position.

“You can now see the type of politics they play in Nigeria — politics of lickers. This is an aberration, and this is why Nigeria will never move forward,” Oseni said.

He further claimed that Elliot had been forced into a difficult political situation after allegedly losing access to positions he previously sought, adding that the lawmaker had once been more confrontational toward political figures.

“Desmond Elliott was caused to kneel down after they had collected Saturday and Sunday from him and given him Tuesday, where there is no position again. Was he not the one fighting and confronting them?” he added.
