Police Rescue Seven-Year-Old Girl

The Anambra State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged brutal abuse of a seven-year-old girl in Obosi, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.

The child, identified as Oluebube Ofoma, was reportedly rescued on Sunday, September 13, 2026, following the intervention of community security personnel and concerned residents in the Ibollo Community, Awada-Obosi.

According to the police, the child was allegedly subjected to severe physical abuse, with preliminary information indicating that some of her injuries were reportedly inflicted with a hot knife.

The intervention also led to the arrest of the child’s mother, identified as Mrs Ogechi Ofoma, 32.

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the matter be thoroughly investigated while working with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare to ensure that the victim receives urgent medical attention, protection and necessary welfare support.

The police command strongly condemned the alleged abuse and commended the community members and security personnel whose swift intervention resulted in the child’s rescue and the arrest of the suspect.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the investigation would be conducted professionally and without compromise.

The command also assured residents that the safety and welfare of the child remain its priority, adding that it would work with relevant government agencies to protect vulnerable persons and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable under the law.
