The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has concluded a major phase of preparations for Saturday’s by-election in the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, with 495,851 registered voters expected to take part in the poll.
The commission on Friday distributed sensitive electoral materials to the relevant local government areas at the Central Bank of Nigeria premises in Gombe.
The exercise was witnessed by representatives of political parties, members of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, security personnel, CBN officials and journalists.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in Gombe State, Alhaji Umar Muktar Gajiram, said the materials would be deployed to the various polling units ahead of voting on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
He explained that the presence of stakeholders during the distribution was intended to promote transparency and strengthen confidence in the electoral process.
According to Gajiram, INEC’s endorsements and signatures on the sensitive materials form part of the authentication process designed to ensure that only properly certified materials are used during the election.
The REC also urged candidates, political parties and their supporters to respect the Peace Accord signed at the Gombe State Police Command.
He appealed to all stakeholders to avoid actions capable of disrupting the election and to work collectively towards a peaceful and orderly exercise.
With preparations reaching the final stage, attention now shifts to election day as voters across the federal constituency prepare to cast their ballots.
