Residents of Osaa Ukwu community in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State have been thrown into mourning following the alleged killing of a woman, Mrs Nwaigbe Nwakanma, by her son.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday when the deceased, popularly known as Daa Nwaigbe, was in her kitchen preparing soup before her son, identified as Livingston Nwakanma, allegedly attacked her with a machete.
The attack reportedly proved fatal, leaving the woman dead at the scene.
Following the incident, Livingston allegedly fled the community but was later apprehended by youths of Osaa Ukwu, who handed him over for further action.
The deceased was said to be a popular trader in the community’s local market. Her death reportedly sparked grief and anger among residents who gathered following news of the incident.
Speaking on the tragedy, the deceased’s husband, Dede Nwakanma, confirmed the death of his wife and described her killing as devastating.
He also claimed that his son had exhibited signs of mental instability for about four years. The suspect was also alleged to have struggled with drug use.
