The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old suspected member of a notorious armed robbery and kidnapping gang linked to a 2023 abduction that resulted in the death of the victim.
The suspect, identified as Olisa Oyelu, alias Obele ‘M’, was arrested in the early hours of Wednesday, September 23, 2026, by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, Oyelu was the last identified member of the gang allegedly led by a suspected criminal known as “Pincode.”
The arrest followed what the command described as sustained intelligence gathering and painstaking investigation into the 2023 kidnapping incident.
Police said Oyelu was allegedly an active participant in the operation and had remained a person of interest as investigators worked to identify all those connected to the crime.
The command said the latest arrest represents a significant breakthrough in its efforts to unravel the activities of the gang and ensure that those allegedly involved face prosecution.
It added that “Pincode” and four other suspects linked to the case are already in custody at a Correctional Centre, where they are remanded pending the determination of their case by the court.
The command said Oyelu would be handed over to the Correctional Centre at the conclusion of the ongoing investigative proceedings.
Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the police operatives for their perseverance and intelligence-led approach to the investigation.
The commissioner assured residents that the command would continue to pursue suspected criminal elements within and outside the state and ensure that suspects found culpable are brought before the law.
He also called on members of the public to provide credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that security remains a shared responsibility.
