The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has ordered its state chapters to stop collecting money from support groups seeking registration with the party.
The directive followed reports that some state chairmen and other officials had allegedly been demanding registration fees from support groups.
In a statement issued on Friday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, the NDC clarified that registration of support groups is completely free.
The party said the process is handled exclusively by its Directorate of Support Groups at the national headquarters in Abuja, stressing that state chapters and individual officials have no authority to register such groups or collect payments.
It directed interested groups to channel all registration requests and enquiries to the designated directorate.
The NDC warned that any official who violates the directive by collecting money or attempting to register support groups outside the approved process would face disciplinary action under the party’s constitution.
The party also reaffirmed its willingness to work with support movements, including the Obidient and Kwankwasiya groups, describing their participation as important to its activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the NDC, it remains committed to creating an enabling environment for support groups to participate in its electoral activities across the country.
