Tensions have continued to rise between Aguleri and Umuoba Anam communities in Anambra State following a fresh outbreak of violence linked to their longstanding land and boundary dispute.
Reports indicate that five people have been killed in the latest clashes, with three reportedly from Aguleri and two from Umuoba Anam. Several others were said to have sustained injuries, while properties were also reportedly damaged during the unrest.
In response to the renewed violence, the Anambra State Government ordered the closure of Otuocha Market and strengthened security presence around the affected communities to prevent further escalation.
The latest incident has also raised concerns over an earlier peace understanding reportedly reached by stakeholders. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged breach.
Meanwhile, the State Boundary Committee has reiterated that the disputed boundary should be addressed through the established government process rather than through confrontation.
Security agencies and relevant government authorities are expected to continue monitoring the area as efforts are made to restore calm and prevent further loss of lives and property.
