Controversial Nigerian cleric, Pastor Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has challenged the claim that Nigeria has a special “calling to revival,” arguing that the country’s priority should be development, good governance and economic progress.
Odumeje was reacting to a statement by Apostle Arome Osayi, who reportedly urged Nigerians to stop comparing themselves with the Chinese, who he described as innovative and productive, while noting that Nigeria has a calling to revival.
Questioning the idea of a national calling to prayer, Odumeje asked whether Nigerians were expected to become “prayer warriors” rather than focus on building the country.
Nigeria has a calling to prayer. What kind of calling is that? Are we meant to be prayer warriors? Nigeria has a calling to development.”
The cleric argued that poor governance has contributed to the proliferation of churches across the country, while accusing some religious leaders of using religion to make young Nigerians overly dependent on pastors.
He urged Nigerian youths to become more involved in demanding accountability and shaping the future of the country rather than relying solely on religious leaders for solutions.
Bad governance is what has contributed to the spread of churches across the country. They want to deceive young people and make everyone depend on pastors.”
Odumeje further called on Nigerian youths to take responsibility for their future and demand better leadership.
Nigerian youths, let’s rise, fight for ourselves, and take back our government.”
