A social media personality known as Bitcoin Chief has recounted how he allegedly spent more than £34,000 sponsoring his younger brother’s education and life in the United Kingdom, only to feel abandoned after the brother became financially successful.
Bitcoin Chief, in a post shared on social media, said he paid his brother’s school fees, provided accommodation, food and other necessities while he pursued a Master’s degree in the UK.
According to him, his brother eventually completed his studies, secured employment and later established a barbing salon with eight chairs in London.
He claimed that despite the financial support he provided, his brother never reciprocated by even buying a loaf of bread for his children.
He further alleged that his brother built a house in Nigeria without informing him and also sponsored a trip to Spain for his girlfriend’s birthday.
Bitcoin Chief said he eventually decided to test his brother’s willingness to assist him financially.
He claimed that he told his brother he was broke and requested £500.
According to him, his brother responded that he had exhausted his money but had about N1 million lying unused.
Bitcoin Chief said he immediately sent his naira account details but claimed that three months later, his brother had neither transferred the money nor responded to the message.
The experience, he said, changed his perception of family, generosity and sacrifice.
He said he had repeatedly reminded his brother and other family members that had their positions been reversed, he would likely still be struggling in the village, arguing that they might only have sent him a small amount and expected him to be grateful.
Reflecting on the experience, Bitcoin Chief said he had spent the first half of his life prioritising other people but had now decided to focus more on himself and his children.
“I have spent the first half of my life living for other people. Now, I have decided to be selfish, stingy, and ‘wicked’ for myself and my sons,” he said.
He concluded his post with a cynical remark about his experience with people and family relationships, saying: “Humans are terrible. Just buy a dog.”
