The Bayelsa State Government has directed security operatives to restore peace in Biseni community, Yenagoa Local Government Area, following a breakdown of law and order that prompted the imposition of a 24-hour curfew.
The curfew, ordered by Governor Douye Diri on Friday, took immediate effect after reports emerged that some individuals had barricaded roads leading into and within the community and set bonfires.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Daniel Alabra, who said the decision followed briefings from security commanders on the situation in the area.
According to the statement, the government imposed the restriction to address the security concerns and restore normalcy in the affected community.
Diri also directed security agencies to take necessary steps to bring the situation under control and ensure the restoration of peace.
The governor appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, urging them to cooperate with security operatives as efforts continued to address the unrest.
He assured the people that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property and would take necessary measures to maintain peace and security across the state.
The government did not disclose further details about the cause of the unrest or whether any arrests had been made as of the time of the announcement.
