Nigeria’s Super Falcons moved a step closer to the next round of the 2028 Olympic Games qualifiers after securing a 2-0 victory over Comoros in the first leg of their second-round encounter in Ikenne on Friday.
The 10-time African champions had to wait until the second half to break down a resilient Comoros defence, despite dominating proceedings before the interval.
Michelle Alozie opened the scoring just two minutes into the second half, giving Nigeria the breakthrough they had been searching for. The goal was her second for the national team.
The Super Falcons continued to press forward and doubled their lead in the 60th minute when Uchenna Kanu converted a corner kick delivered by Jennifer Echegini.
The two goals gave Nigeria a valuable advantage ahead of the return fixture, with the team now focused on securing qualification in the second leg.
Both sides will meet again at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne next Tuesday, where the Super Falcons will aim to complete the job and strengthen their bid for a place at the 2028 Olympic Games.
