Adeleke’s Support for Tinubu Is Political Survival Move, Man Claims, Cites ₦216bn Osun LG Allocation Dispute

Adeleke and Tinubu

A man has alleged that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s reported support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is motivated by political survival rather than personal affection for the president.

The man claimed that the governor was navigating a difficult political situation amid an alleged dispute over federal allocations meant for the state’s 30 local government areas.

According to him, the local governments have been unable to access their federal allocations since February 2025, with the accumulated amount allegedly exceeding ₦216 billion.

He argued that the situation has affected the state government’s ability to execute projects and deliver development to residents, suggesting that Adeleke’s reported alignment with Tinubu should be viewed against this backdrop.

“If you think Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke is supporting Tinubu because he loves him or doesn’t care about the suffering of the people, then you’re wrong,” he said.

“Governor Adeleke is a man trying to survive politically. Do you know that Osun State is the only state in Nigeria where all 30 local government areas are unable to access their federal allocations? Since February 2025, over ₦216 billion in accumulated allocations has been withheld from Osun State by the federal government, hindering the governor from executing several projects in the state,” he added.

The allegation has raised questions about the relationship between political alignments, federal-local government funding disputes and governance in Osun State.

However, the man’s assertion that Adeleke’s reported support for Tinubu is driven by political survival represents his interpretation of the governor’s political position. No evidence was provided in the statement to independently establish the governor’s alleged motive.

Similarly, the claim that more than ₦216 billion in local government allocations has been withheld, as well as the assertion that all 30 local government areas have been unable to access their funds since February 2025, would require independent verification.
