Former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win Imo State in the 2027 general elections, insisting that opposition to the president in the Southeast should not be mistaken for hatred towards him.
Okorocha made this statement during an interview on Channels Television on Thursday, where he discussed Tinubu’s political chances in the Southeast and his own emergence with a political ticket.
According to him, the resentment previously experienced by the APC in Imo State was largely directed at the administration of former Governor Ikedi Ohakim and should not be interpreted as opposition to Tinubu.
He said, “President Tinubu has done no wrong to any Igbo man. His best friends in Lagos are Igbos.”
He further argued that political grievances against state leaders should not be transferred to the president, adding that the APC performed better in Imo State under Buhari’s administration when he was governor than under Tinubu.
“Buhari’s time when I was governor was the worst period ever… But even at that, we made 25 per cent. As against when Tinubu came under Hope that we couldn’t make five per cent,” he stated.
Okorocha maintained that Tinubu’s chances in Imo State could improve with his emergence and the political ticket, declaring, “Let me tell you that, with my emergence now, this ticket, Tinubu will win in Imo State.”
