The Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has criticised the Kogi State Government over what she described as inadequate infrastructure and poor utilisation of government funds.
The lawmaker made the remarks while speaking in Okene, where she questioned the state government’s development record, arguing that the payment of workers’ salaries should not be celebrated as a major achievement.
Akpoti-Uduaghan also accused the government of prioritising the reward of political thugs over meaningful development, insisting that residents deserved better infrastructure and improved public services.
She cited Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, as an example of a leader she believes has demonstrated what can be achieved through investments in infrastructure and public services.
According to the senator, Otti has embarked on road construction and rehabilitation, improved infrastructure in Aba, and undertaken projects in the health and education sectors while maintaining the payment of workers’ salaries.
She argued that Kogi State should be delivering similar development projects rather than presenting salary payments as evidence of good governance.
“What Alex Otti has done in Abia in less than two years, Kogi has not done in 10 years. That man has changed Aba, he has fixed roads, hospitals, schools, and he is still paying salaries. So what are we celebrating here?” she queried.
The senator maintained that paying workers their salaries is a fundamental responsibility of government and should not be treated as an extraordinary accomplishment.
