Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has urged the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, to remain calm and resolute as he intensifies ongoing efforts to secure his release.
The governor made the appeal during a visit to Kanu at the Sokoto Correctional Centre, according to a statement on Sunday night by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma.
Otti was accompanied by Abia State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna (SAN); Kanu’s younger brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu; and senior officials from the Sokoto State government. During the visit, the governor assured Kanu that the processes he initiated more than two years ago toward resolving the matter had been “heightened despite recent developments.”
He encouraged Kanu to “remain calm but strong,” adding that the issue “will be resolved administratively” and that he would eventually regain his freedom. Otti also expressed satisfaction that the Sultan of Sokoto shared his position on the importance of Kanu’s release and the broader de-escalation of regional tensions.
In response, Kanu was reported to be in high spirits, expressing gratitude to Otti for the gesture. He said his primary interest remained good governance and efforts to improve the well-being of the people. Kanu also prayed for God’s guidance for Otti and his team as they continue to serve Abia State.
The Abia government noted that Kanu was “all smiles” during the meeting and appreciative of the renewed efforts to address his situation.
Akelicious recalls that following Kanu’s sentencing to life imprisonment on terrorism-related charges, Governor Otti had previously disclosed that efforts to secure his release were already underway, with a release framework quietly activated during the trial.

I’ve bookmarked this post for future reference. Thanks again!
