Abia lowers maternal-child mortality death rate

Abia State has through its ‘Saving One Million Lives Project’ recorded a remarkable decline in maternal and child mortality rates in the State.

The Project Manager, Suzzy Nwachukwu, who disclosed this said the programme has recorded huge successes especially in the area of supporting nutrition of vitamin A, immunisation vaccine, and malaria control for children under five years.

According to her, the programme, which started in 2017, has also impacted enormously in the lives of women of child bearing age.

She advised mothers to improve their health behaviour as it will reduce the rate of maternal and child mortality in the country.

The Save One Million Lives Project is a performance-based assessment program sponsored by the Federal Government in collaboration with the World Bank.
