Human rights activist, Deji Adeyanju, has called on the Federal Government to immediately release detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, accusing authorities of focusing on the wrong priorities while insecurity worsens across the country.
Adeyanju condemned the continued detention of Kanu, arguing that government officials should instead channel their energy toward apprehending terrorists responsible for killings, mass abductions, and attacks on security personnel and civilians nationwide.
He cited a recent incident in Katsina where a notorious bandit leader reportedly killed an Assistant Commissioner of Police and wore his uniform to a supposed peace meeting—an act he described as a symbol of the country’s collapsing security architecture.
According to Adeyanju, the government appears more lenient toward terrorists, often labeling them “repentant,” while cracking down harshly on separatist agitators.
He warned that Nigeria risks further deterioration if the government fails to prioritize citizens’ safety and address what he termed the “growing collapse of law and order.”
