The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally submitted a letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), demanding the immediate resignation or removal of its Chairman, Prof. Josah Akinyemi.
In the letter dated April 8 and stamped “RECEIVED” by INEC, the party accused the Commission’s leadership of partisan conduct, gross misconduct, constitutional breach, and posing a threat to Nigeria’s multi-party democracy.
ADC alleged that recent public statements and actions by the INEC Chairman have compromised the Commission’s neutrality, accusing him of overstepping his constitutional role by interpreting court judgments, which the party insists is the exclusive responsibility of the judiciary.
The party further claimed that INEC’s actions suggest alignment with factional interests, warning that such conduct undermines the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral system.
ADC emphasized that INEC is not a court of law and must operate strictly within constitutional limits with neutrality and professionalism.
