The press release by Mr Ekerete Udoh, the Chief Press Secretary to Gov Udom Emmanuel, denying the alleged robbery incident at the Government House,Uyo,is nothing but an unbalanced piece of falsehood.
In the words of Mr Dennis Udoma,a revered journalist in the state:
Dennis Udoma wrote:
“I am yet to agree to this Press Release issued by Akwa Ibom Government House Press Unit over the missing milions because, I was on hand to personally inspect the damage done to the entrance door to the office that housed the money
I also spoke with the Confidential Secretary to the CPS, who confirmed to the crime and even said, it was the CPS that called her to notify about the robber’s action
She also showed some of us present the empty bag the robber(s) left behind after taking the money
Therefore, why is the CPS denying the fact that, robbers broke into his office to cart away millions of Naira?
What about the missing TV sets stolen at various times before this particular incident?
The Press Release is enterly a face saving and fire fighting approach to the poor handling of the matter, and the Press should not be gag for exposing the crime.
Else, they should approach the Nigerian Press Council for redress and stop portraying journalists as enemies of the state.”
The seat of government is not state. The streets are not safe. Nowhere and nobody is safe in Uyo,the state capital.
The ineptitude and cluelessness of the government must not be extended to security of lives and property of the citizenry.
This is not time for anybody to spew empty and meaningless lies to the public.
The governor and the Chief Security Officer of the state must ensure that lives and property are safe in the state.
