Hopes are high across the country as Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja today adjourned the long-standing trial of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to May 6th, 7th, and 8th for final judgment.
After a decade of legal proceedings, the presiding judge declared his intent to bring the case to a definitive end. “This matter must come to a conclusion by the 8th of May 2025. It has lingered for 10 years and I’m not going to stretch it more,” Justice Omotosho firmly stated in court.
Expressing a sense of moral urgency, he added, “We are going to give account of our actions here on Earth when we die. I want to give a good account.”
Supporters of Nnamdi Kanu have welcomed the announcement with cautious optimism, anticipating that the long-detained IPOB leader may finally regain his freedom next week. Scenes of celebration are already emerging in parts of the South-East as many await what could be a historic judicial decision.
Nnamdi Kanu, arrested and extradited under controversial circumstances in 2021, has faced charges related to treasonable felony and terrorism, which he and his legal team have consistently denied.
With just days remaining, national and international attention is now sharply focused on the Federal High Court as the final chapter in the decade-long legal saga nears.
