The governorship aspirants of the African Democratic Congress, ADC are protesting what they called exorbitant cost of nomination forms for the November 6 Anambra state governorship election.
The leadership of the party few days ago announced that the nomination forms for the November 6 election goes for 10 million naira while the expression of interest form sells for 2 million naira, bringing the total to 12 million naira.
But this didn’t go down well with the party’s governorship aspirants who believe that the cost of the nomination forms are very high. Some of the aspirants who spoke to AIF Media on the condition of anonymity said the nomination forms of ADC, a party that has no elected officer in Anambra state pegging her nomination forms at 12 million naira is outrageous.
In the same vein two other aspirants of the party who spoke to AIF Media said, if the party insists on selling her nomination forms at 12 million naira, then they will seek the mandate of other parties and dump the party.
Presently, ADC has 4 governorship aspirants for the November 6 governorship election. AIF Media also gathered that there are other interested aspirants who are discussing with the party leadership and may declare for the party at the appropriate time.
Our investigation shows that some party leaders and majority of the members of the party are not happy with the high cost of nomination forms of the party. They are afraid that this is the only election that the party is having serious guber aspirants that brought vibrancy to the party and that the high cost of the nomination forms may force them out.
A respected leader told AIF Media that it was these aspirants came into the party with their various structures and supporters and pleaded with the party leadership not to scare them away with cost of nomination forms. He said the party hierarchy should to bring down the cost if the party is serious in this election.
“Some of the Aspirants are vibrant, they have goodwill and loved by the people, they can win this election for us with their acceptability and street touch. They are not money bags and we shouldn’t look at APGA, PDP and APC that are selling their forms so high. One or two million is ok for the nomination forms of our party. “
With the protest by the governorship aspirants, AIF Media spoke to the state chairman of ADC, Comrade Patrick Obianyo. In his reaction, Comrade Obianyo said the leadership pegged her nomination forms at 12 million naira due to logistics and many election expencis to be made during the campaigns which will be funded by the party.
He told AIF Media that APGA sells her nomination forms 22 million naira, PDP sold 26 million naira and APC is selling 22 million naira. He wondered why 12 million naira will be too much for an ADC Governorship Aspirant.
It is therefore left for the NWC to possibly review the cost of the party’s nomination forms downward in line with the opinion of her members and leaders who spoke to AIF Media if they are serious of fielding a vibrant candidate with grassroot touch who can compete neck-neck with other major contenders from other parties
