Youths in Nri, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, have apprehended suspected political thugs allegedly loyal to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after they were caught vandalizing campaign materials belonging to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The incident occurred on Thursday, with eyewitnesses reporting that the suspects were seen tearing down and defacing campaign posters and banners of APC leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC governorship candidate Prince Dr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife.
According to local sources, the youths swiftly intervened upon spotting the destruction and managed to apprehend some of the suspects, who were subsequently handed over to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.
In response to the incident, a large number of Nri youths converged at the residence of Senator Uche Ekwunife in a show of solidarity. What began as a peaceful visit quickly evolved into a spontaneous rally endorsing the APC ticket for the upcoming November gubernatorial election.
The youths strongly condemned the acts of political violence and issued a stern warning against any further attempts at intimidation or character defamation, especially targeting Senator Ekwunife.
“We will not tolerate political intimidation, particularly not against Senator Ekwunife,” a community member declared. “She is not only our daughter-in-law but also someone who has made significant contributions to the development of Nri.”
Some residents expressed concern that the attack may have been motivated not only by political rivalry but also by gender bias.
“Why target Senator Ekwunife and not Prince Ukachukwu?” questioned a local youth leader. “Is it because she’s a woman? This harassment is not just unacceptable—it’s a threat to democratic values.”
