The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu (Sommie), News Anchor, Reporter, and Producer with ARISE News Channel, following an armed robbery incident at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
According to the FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, armed robbers invaded the three-storey, 18-flat apartment building where Sommie lived. During the incident, a security guard on duty was shot while attempting to resist the intruders.
In the panic that followed, Sommie, who lived on the top floor, jumped from the third floor.
She was rushed to Maitama General Hospital but was later confirmed dead despite efforts to resuscitate her.
The Police have launched a special investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigations, to track down and prosecute those responsible.
The Commissioner assured that no stone will be left unturned in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
