A young man identified simply as Small, an indigene of Ebonyi State, has reportedly confessed to being part of the criminal gang responsible for the brutal killing of Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband of the late Prof. Dora Akunyili, former Director-General of NAFDAC and Nigeria’s Minister of Information.
The suspect, who was earlier apprehended by operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba, made shocking revelations during interrogation. He admitted that the deadly attack was led by another Ebonyi native known as Jukwese. According to his confession, the assailants first targeted and neutralized Dr. Akunyili’s police escorts before turning their guns on him.
Security sources revealed that the same gang had been responsible for a series of violent crimes and killings across Anambra State, instilling fear among residents for months. However, recent coordinated security operations have begun to dismantle their network.
Operatives of Operation Udo Gachi, working in collaboration with local vigilante units, have been credited for the significant progress made in tracking down and neutralizing criminal elements who once vowed to make the state unsafe.
