Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has called for the immediate release of political detainees, including former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, stressing that no one should be imprisoned for holding different political views.
Speaking after returning from Umrah, Atiku led a delegation on a solidarity visit to the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, reiterating his stance against politically motivated detentions.
He emphasized that authorities should respect Nigeria’s democratic principles, warning that citizens must not be punished for their ideology or party affiliation. The former vice president’s statement adds to growing national discussions on political freedoms and human rights in Nigeria.
